FROGTAPE PAINT OVER CHALLENGE // WEEK 3 REVEAL

It has been a quick few weeks completing this space for the FrogTape Paint Over Challenge, but reveal week is here already! Just to remind you, here is how the guest room over at #ProjectFamJam began:

And after incorporating my designated design trend of Inter-Woven, the space is now filled with rich saturated colors, layers of texture and bold patterns.  I was able to mix a little traditional, with a little boho, and touch of mid-century to create an eclectic design that flows with the rest of the house, but also manages to stand alone.  The main goal was to be a little more adventurous with color in this space, and to create an escape for the guests that will be visiting.  The best compliment I could have gotten was when the owners said they wanted to sleep in their new Guest Room.  Mission accomplished.

This dark saturated teal (Sherwin Williams Cascades) was the perfect background for the room.  The color is such a chameleon.  Depending on the time of day and the light pouring in, the room can change the walls from navy, to deep forest green to a rich teal.  There are just enough black undertones to make the room feel sophisticated and moody.  It was a great choice for a bedroom as it feels like it just envelops you.

The addition of the DIY canopy for the bed also creates a special place for guests to rest. (I’ll be sharing a full tutorial on this as well in the next day or so.)  I layered the bed with a mix of bedding to reinforce in the Inter-Woven trend.  Navy fringed pillows, tribal patterned shams and a large statement pillow made from a vintage turkish rug create the focal point of the bed.  The chambray bedskirt adds a casual element and the large tasseled duvet finishes off the look.

Adding the artwork that inspired the space over the bed instantly draws your eyes into the space.  And the vintage rug pillow looks as if it were made to go with this piece.  I choose to bring in these sconces over the bed due to the canopy.  Had I put lamps or hung the sconces on the outside, the drapery panels would have blocked their access.

One of the best deals of the room have to be these nightstands!  They look so expensive, but I nabbed them on sale for $75 a piece.  Unfortunately they are now sold out, but I’ll try and find a few similar options to share with you all soon.  Their Mid-Century vibe helps to tie in the rest of the home and the touches of walnut bring in the natural elements of wood that the space needed.  Also, the tiered marble top works well with the canopy panels and allows easy access for a glass of water when in bed.

Remember last week when I shared the beginnings of the graphic pattern I was adding to the flat panel closet doors?!  Well, it might just be my favorite element of the entire space.  And while it was a labor of love, the results are so worth it.

I added a little bit of black paint to the wall color and painted over the FrogTape to create these graphic stripes.  Fortunately, FrogTape gives you a clean line every time.  Otherwise the results would not have been this good!  And their yellow tape for Specialty Finishes left the newly painted doors in tact.  No touch ups needed.

All the heart eyes!!!  I had originally thought about doing these in the dark green and white, but thought that may have been too graphic for the space.  I am so glad I went with my gut and kept it tonal.  It feels so lux and the subtlety of the colors really makes a statement.

Their original dresser, which was my client’s childhood dresser, got a new coat of paint and some vintage brass knobs.  I decided to keep the dresser the same color as the walls to make the space feel larger.  If it would have been a different color it would have broken up the visual space.  I finished the look with some more art and their existing geometric lamp.

Now to breakdown the overall cost of the space.  Using $1000 to fill an entire bedroom was tough and I had to stretch the budget where I could, but we made it.
