Dog Bed with Gold Leather Handle

Did you know September is National Sewing Month?!  Yeah, me either… But I do now thanks to Jo Ann Fabrics & Waverly Fabrics.  They have challenged bloggers to create something creative for their Waverize It! Campaign using new fall releases of their fun fabrics.  After receiving my mystery box I was pleased to open a fresh floral called Shi Shi & decided to pair it with this old belt… Say What?!
Yes.  A Gold Leather Belt that has been sitting in our closet for, well, years.  Thinking it better suited towards the cause of a new project rather than collecting dust in our closet I reinvented this fun piece of fabric & scrap of leather into a sweet dog bed for our deserving girl Indiana (Indy for short…)
I think she loves it.
Y’all know that I am not a seamstress, nor do I play one on TV.  I dabble in sewing & know just enough to get the job done.  I put our 1921 Singer Featherweight to work & built up the courage to attempt my first ever box cushion.  While I have not perfected the technique I am pretty proud of my attempt & thrilled with the fact I didn’t jack up the machine (probably just jinxed myself there!)
Knowing I couldn’t simply make a floral box cushion & be done with it, I added a gold leather handle that makes it a little edgy & tough.  Just like our fluffy girl.  She has attitude.  I attached the original rivets using some glue & the handle is velcro’d on so I can throw the cover in the wash.  She is a dog after all.  The bed needed to be functional too.
Isn’t she cute?!
Now it’s your turn.  JoAnn Fabrics & Waverly want you to Waverize It! too!!
Create any unique sewing project using Waverly Fabric this month & submit your project to win 30 Yards of Waverly Fabric & a $250 JoAnn’s Giftcard!!!  Nice right?!  Not a bad way to celebrate National Sewing Month & Waverly’s 90th Anniversary.
Good luck & get sewing!
The following review is part of the Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores Waverly campaign. I received fabric from Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores for this project; however, this is my personal, honest opinion based on my experience.
