Decorative Nailhead Ball
Thanks for all the Get Well notes the other day. I think the dreaded plague is on it’s way out & I am finally starting to feel human again.
While doped up on cold meds I wasn’t in the best frame of mind to take on important things like clients space planning (where lots of measurements are involved) or operating any tools for some big DIY project. All I was good for was Pinning & then, subsequently, literally pinning. I came across this lovely image while on Pinterest & thought I could totally do that!
Oomph Tini Table IV $395 |
No not the table (which is killer!), remember we aren’t operating heavy machinery. The nailhead ball or decorative ob’jet (object obviously said in a French accent to make it sound more expensive.)
I had everything on hand & season premieres galore to watch while doing the project. All it takes is a styrofoam ball & some nailheads…Ok… A lot of nailheads.
Plus, it only took about 30 minutes to complete.
I might just have to make a few more…
Sidebar: Notice the leather top table? It’s a standard enough piece that was passed down to us from the hub’s father. For it’s age it is in pretty good condition. What’s not in pretty good condition? It’s ugly cousin we found on the side of the road last week.
The shape is great, the bottom half is great… this top, not so much. I have quite the transformation in mind for this beauty! Stay tuned…

What a great idea! I love it.
ok Im going to have to try this!! Love it!
Great project! I need to buy some bulk nailheads anyway so this would be a fun one to try.
Not a big crafty person, but I think I can do this. Will try thumb tacks too for a cheaper version. Thank you and hope you continue to feel better!:-)
Great project idea! I think I'll make a few in smaller scale for the christmas tree! Should add some sparkle. Thanks for sharing and glad you're feeling better!
Girl!! I saw that photo a couple weeks ago as well and bought the supplies to make one myself! Great minds think alike π
What a fun project. I'm going to give it a try. I did something similar last year with sugar pumpkins. It turned out cute and my three year old son was able to help out.
You have some of the greatest ideas! Can't wait to see what you do with this piece!
you are just the MOST clever. so happy to have found you today!
Love that texture and in my favorite gold, no less!
I love this project Kristin, and so glad the bug is leaving. Now we just need to get rid of it here π
Hugs, Tanya
Me likey! Love a quick little project. Glad to hear you're feeling better!
It would be worth a try to see what some Mayo would do for the found table top. It does wonders.
Mayo does work wonders, but not miracles. :). The leather is completely worn away in the lighter spots.
I am always using mayo for my drink rings though!
Very cool! It adds so much texture.. so smart!
I love this idea! I am definitely going to have to do this — thanks so much! I found your blog via Centsational Girl, and I am so glad that I did!
Didn't post my response? Face it, it's not a new idea. Wow. Egos. SMH. I guess you won't get the mention when I post it on FB.
I apologize PMC. Not my intention. I actually accidentally deleted it & had to enter it manually & just got around to it. No egos here honestly.
Managing the comments just gets push to the back burner sometimes.
An oldie but a goodie I had forgotten about! If I remember, there was a suggestion to paint the styro brown or black to avoid any white showing through.
PMC Thank you for your response! You are right, it is not an original idea, but to good not to share. I had not seen a tutorial previously. You make a great point… I forgot to mention I started with a black ball as it was a leftover Minnie Mouse Ear from a party. Just be sure to use paint made for styrofoam.
I love your decorative nailhead ball! Where did you get the nailheads? I tried Hobby Lobby and they look too little and only sell about 30 in a bag. I ordered some on Kit Kraft (they were 3/16") and they were too small. What size did you use?
Thanks Darleen! I buy my nailheads in bulk on eBay. Usually 1000 at a time. It sounds like a lot, but they do go fast & for $15 with shipping for 1000 vs. 25 for $3 something I'd rather have some on hand. Hope this helps!
Kristin,
Thanks! Do you know what size they are?
I believe they are 1/2"
Thanks so much Kristin!
I LOVE this project (found it via Pinterest) and your blog! Totally your new biggest fan! Your house is adorable and you take the most fabulous pics!
